For a while I’ve been working on an essay about the rise of glass architecture in the technology industry. It was finally published by Mute Magazine — read it here. The piece starts with Amazon’s “Spheres” which opened this past January in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. The timeline of the Spheres — whose design was first unveiled in 2013 — oddly mirrors my own tenure in Seattle (2013-2017). I’m in Santa Cruz now — Silicon Valley is just over the mountains.
